A relaxing day on the links? Par for the course.

In fact, making the most of your next weekend getaway is a breeze when you look at all the things to do around Mesquite, Nevada. So go on an adventure knowing that you’ve got comfortable accommodations, great food and other amenities waiting when you return.

Get out and explore

Mesquite has scenic trails and desert beauty within reach, providing an inspiring backdrop for hikers and nature lovers alike, all without spending a dime.

Set your sights on Keyhole Rock, a natural arch found inside a granite rock formation only 16 miles from Mesquite, between Bunkerville and Aravada Springs. Once you’re there, you’ll see amazing views of Mesquite to the north. Venture a little south and you’ll reach Aravada Springs Campground. Since the terrain is a bit rugged, the ride can take about an hour and 20 mins. It is suggested that whatever vehicle you take it is a high ground clearance and preferably AWD or 4x4.

This year-round camping area has all the amenities you’ll need: walking trails, a disc golf course, ATV trails, a swimming pond, stargazing and more.

You can also take advantage of its free Wi-Fi, and Aravada can accommodate any budget with deluxe or standard cabins, as well as petroglyph-themed tipis for a unique lodging experience.

PRO TIP: When you reach the registration area, visit Ella’s Country Store for any necessities. You can even order items online and pick them up at the store when you arrive.

For more lush landscapes, several national parks are also within reach of Mesquite. About an hour northeast is Zion National Park, where you can immerse yourself in a variety of plants and animals while admiring the massive sandstone cliffs and slot canyons. It’s one of the most exhilarating day trips from Mesquite.

Plan ahead and get a permit to hike through Angel’s Landing, one of the park’s most popular trails. This 5.4-mile, round-trip adventure features steep switchbacks and spectacular views around every turn.

Zion National Park also has some of the darkest night skies, resulting in some of the best stargazing in the country. The park limits the emission of artificial light to preserve the skies and ensure they will remain their darkest for stargazers. The best skies for viewing are on the east side of the park along Kolob Terrace Road, and there are multiple locations outside of the scenic drive that are easily accessible and open year-round, all providing inspiring views of the Milky Way.

Check the moon phase before heading to Zion National Park and, if possible, visit during the week leading up to a new moon. That’s when you’ll encounter the darkest skies and most visible stars.

PRO TIP: The night sky changes gradually, depending on when you visit throughout the year. August and September are generally the best months to see the best views of the Milky Way, and mid-December is when you can witness the bright meteors of the Geminid meteor shower.

Swing by for a round of golf

Spend a day on the links at one of Mesquite’s championship golf courses.

The picturesque views alone make for an unforgettable experience at Wolf Creek Golf Club. From the changing elevations and the intriguing hole designs and layouts to the intricate details like the brilliant, white-sand bunkers, you’ll have a great time from the first hole to the clubhouse.
