What is Mesquite, Nevada’s, history?

Originally called Mesquite Flats, pioneering families attempted to settle the area three different times between 1878 and 1894. The first two attempts were abandoned after pioneers were repeatedly flooded out by raging thunderstorms that caused the Virgin River to overflow.
